New Delhi & Guwahati 28th September 2008 – In New Delhi - Delhi & Guwahati – Assam, India, a global grassroots campaign is taking shape.  This year, the JBF(INDIA) & JBF Welfare Organization have  teamed up with international rabies experts to celebrate the second annual World Rabies Day on September 28, 2008.
On this occasion JBF organized Placard making competition among children of JBF Informal School – Viklang Basti Unit which is a poor slum cluster in south Delhi. The children were quite enthusiastic & around 63 children took part in it. For the younger group there was coloring competition on an activity sheet specially designed for the World Rabies Day. Prizes were distributed among the children.

Another event was the Special talk on World Rabies Day, Animal Welfare & Rabies by Mrs Amanda Seth, Ms Debbie Smith – both Animal Welfarist and Dr Smriti – Hon. Animal Welfare officer & Secretary, JBF WO.

Mrs Seth stressed kindness to animals while being vigilant in recognizing and understanding rabies.  Dr Smriti gave a simple and informative talk on rabies and its control.  An anti rabies camp to vaccinate the dogs in the area will take place during the month of October.

Coincidently Mr. Gordon May, an author from UK was also present in the Delhi event who is on the way to Chennai from Manchester, UK on his 1953 model Enfield motorcycle. He is promoting JBF during his tour around 8000miles long road journey.

It is worthy to mention that JBF(INDIA) organized a Free Health Check up and Anti-Rabies Vaccination Camp for the Homeless & Homed Dogs at the premises of  JBF Animal Relief Centre, 4-Chandan Nagar, Survey, Beltola, Guwahati, Assam, India. The nearby public were informed through telephone, banners etc about this camp since few weeks ago. A marked positive response was visible on this occasion with a huge gathering turned out with their pets as well as on curiosity.

The Flyer – “RABIES: What you need to know” was distributed in different public gatherings at Guwahati to create awareness among general public & also to pass the message that “Together we can get rid of Rabies”.
“JBF saw this as an opportunity to highlight the rabies prevention and control efforts in our community, while teaming up with people around the world towards a common goal,” says Dr. Sashanka S. Dutta – Managing Trustee of JBF(INDIA), who is also a co-opted member of Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests. He was confident of a good gathering & was blessed by a prompt response.
