School expansion to give 30 full time places for local children.
It is great news from the Informal School Project. We have located a place where we can hold our permanent and expanded school, only a few minutes walk away from where the Sunday School has been held for the last one year. That is good because it means that the children from the Sunday School can now attend the daily school as and when they are able – work and family commitments permitting.
On March 10th we held our first class in this new place, mainly to bring awareness of our project to the local community. The class was held outside to attract maximum interest – and the response was most positive, with plenty of people of all ages coming to see what we are planning.
This local community has a representative committee and we met with them to discuss about the availability of a room large enough to hold our class of 30 children, along with the teachers, books and all the other things associated with the work. There is no such building in that area at present, but the committee have promised us that if the interest in our school is sufficient, then they will build a new room for our use and give that to us on rent. The money will then go to the committee which will use it for community based purposes which will help the residents.
We have been busy buying the necessary materials for starting in the new building, which we hope will be finished during May. Until then, the school will be held every Sunday until 02 May, and then daily in a small room or outside, according to the weather.
The Sunday School which has been running for the past 12 months will continue and we will be encouraging those children to also come along to the new daily school and join us there.
It is only your giving that has made this possible, so a big Thank You for helping to bring this idea to life. Look out for another update once we have moved into the permanent building.
