Awareness of animal care.
Trips to The National Zoological Park and Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre provide an opportunity to the children of seeing animals more closely. This gives them an opportunity to understand why a compassionate human/animal interaction is so important. Seeing different species of animals, many suffering from different problems helps broaden the children’s knowledge of animals & their welfare. This will help them become more compassionate to animals as they grow up.
Health and hygiene awareness programs.
Free health check-up campaign for children:
Free health check-ups are organized for the children of the school. The visiting physician delivers a talk on health and hygiene in a lucid manner very much understandable to the children of the school. Each child then receives an examination and free medicines are given from JBF as per prescription of the visiting doctor. All children are also given the Hepatitis B vaccine as part of our health drive.
Children are also taught about dental health and hygiene and dental check-up campaigns are organized from time to time for them.
Government Health Department has selected JBF Informal School as a distribution point for chlorine (drinking water sanitation) and oral re-hydration agent (for treating de-hydration victims). The village people take up these chlorine and oral re-hydration agent from time to time from the School.
Free health check-up campaign for adults:
On 27th Nov’07, JBF conducted a free Health Check-up camp for the people of Viklang Basti. JBF team realized that there is need of regular health check-up for the underprivileged individuals of Viklang Basti who can’t afford to go to a private practitioner. Unfortunately, the government hospital staff generally neglects the poorer people, which prevents them going to the hospitals. Keeping this in mind, on 30th No v’07 JBF started a Health Care Centre at the Informal School premises for the Viklang Basti community. Dr. Sachedeva, a dedicated medico and experienced in working with the underprivileged people, along with a Dispense Nurse attend JBF Health Care Centre every Tuesday and Friday. Free medicines are provided by JBF to the patient as per the prescription of the Doctor.
A special talk on prevention of Haemophilia was also organized during the year.
